The National Theatre’s exciting new production of Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’ commences previews on 30th September and opens on 8th October. It promises to be one of the hottest theatre tickets of 2010.

The play promises a long evening in the theatre and the National’s start times have been adjusted to reflect this with normal evening performances commencing at 7pm and matinees at 1.30pm.

The play tells the story of Prince Hamlet, who discovers his uncle the king murdered the previous monarch, Hamlet’s father. The prince then has to decide whether to kill the murderer in turn and we see his agonies and the resulting carnage.

Rory Kinnear has become one of the major theatre stars in the country and plays the title role. He is a particular favourite of director Nicholas Hytner who has begun to assemble a superb supporting cast for this production which is strongly rumoured to be Hytner’s last before announcing that he will be stepping down from the post of artistic director at the National.

David Calder who was a superb King Lear at the Globe last year plays Polonius. He has also played some of the other iconic Shakespearean roles for the Royal Shakespeare Company including Prospero and Shylock.

Clare Higgins plays Hamlet’s mother Gertrude. She has many credits at the National Theatre including, most recently, ‘All’s Well That Ends Well’ and ‘Oedipus’. Like Calder she also has extensive credits with the Royal Shakespeare Company including roles in ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and ‘Antony and Cleopatra’.

Patrick Malahide plays the usurping King Claudius. He is probably still best known for television appearances such as ‘Minder’.

This production seems destined to sell out particularly as all London theatre tickets are in such demand. At Concierge Desk, we bring you the best last minute deals in cheap London theatre tickets.
