There are many different Halloween school activities that can be used in the lead up to Halloween. The good news is that many of these are also educational Halloween activities so the kids can actually be learning as they have fun.

Of course one of the most popular Halloween school activities is Halloween crafts. Kids can make things at school that can be used to decorate the classroom or they can be taken home to add to the Halloween decorations at home. There are many simple Halloween crafts that make very effective decorations.

Halloween Crafts

Transparent ghosts make an effective decoration. You will require wax paper, glitter, black construction paper, string, and newspaper. First, take two large pieces of wax paper and put them together. Trace and then cut out a large ghost shape from the waxed paper. Next, cut out eyes from the black paper and a ghostly shape mouth from construction.

Lay one ghost wax paper down on a piece of newspaper. Then lay down the eyes and mouth and sprinkle with glitter. Place the second wax paper ghost shape over the first one, lining up the edges. Next put another piece of newspaper over this and iron it with an iron set on a medium heat until both pieces of wax paper are stuck together. Your ghost is then ready to be hung up.

Halloween Story Writing

Instead of crafts you might like to try some different Halloween school activities. Halloween story writing is often the favorite type of writing for children. It is their chance to write about ghoulish things and blood and guts and this is the one time of the year when such topics are actually acceptable.

Children can write their own story or they can write a collaborative story with people taking turns to write one sentence at a time or to start a sentence and then let then let the next person complete it.

If children have all created their own Halloween story, these can then be read to the class with children taking turns to read someone else’s story. After each is read the class has to guess who has written the story.

Halloween Word Games

If you are looking for Halloween school activities that are quick and simple to organize, you might like to try a few Halloween word games. The traditional spelling game of Hangman can become a Halloween game if played with Halloween words.

Another simple Halloween word game is to play Halloween Jumble. Just list Halloween words on the board with the letters jumbled up. It is then up to the children to unjumble the letters to find the original words. This game can be made even more appealing if the letters for each word are written on a pumpkin shape that is cut out of card. Make a game out of this by having a prize for the first person to find each of the words.

There is an endless list of Halloween school activities that can be used in the classroom at Halloween. If you choose carefully you will also have an educational Halloween activity that the kids can actually learn from as well.
