Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is a country in the Caribbean well known for its scenic beauty. The country can be a great honeymoon destination for those who are looking for a romantic tranquil honeymoon. However, till date, the country remains as one of the lesser known tourist destination in the region. If anyone wants to know the reason behind it, then one has to analyze the social, economic as well as political scenario of the country.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is a small country whose economy is mostly based on agriculture. Once upon a time the country was famous as one of the most well known banana producing country in the Caribbean. However, after a few natural calamities that wrecked the country havoc the production of banana went down and the ULP government failed to establish the harvest of any new crop for the economic growth of the country. The government so far has not taken tourism industry as seriously as it should.

Only recently the government took a few inadequate initiatives to boost its tourism industry. The present initiative to commence the international airport as well as the recent resort was the result of that initiative. These initiatives are however, are not enough for a country that is trying to earn a name as a honeymoon destination amidst other well known tourist destinations in the area. But apart from this inadequacy there are a number of other problems that looms as threats over the tourism industry of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is at present marked as one of the major marijuana producers in the Caribbean. the government has failed to control this production or to do something about the ongoing drug trade in the country. As a result the county has become a haven for the drug traders and drug lords. This has significantly increased the crime rate in the country. When a country has high crime rate, tourists generally fear to come to that place. This is one of the reasons why Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has failed to establish a name in the tourism industry.

The country also has a high rate of reported cases of rapes which is not very healthy for a country which wants to be one of the top honeymoon destinations in the world. If the government cannot control the crime in the country no newlywed couple would feel safe to come to this country for honeymoon. As a result the country will lose a great deal of foreign revenue.

So, if you sum it up you will find that inefficiency in the government level is the only reason behind the present situation of the tourism industry in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Therefore the people in this country should try to make the changes in the government this time and elect a better government so that the country can earn its rightful place in the tourism industry of the world as a honeymoon destination.
