Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature sculptor, Gaëtan Trottier, in Beyond Borders. The exhibition is scheduled to run from October 05, 2010 through October 26, 2010 (opening reception: Thursday, October 07, 2010).

As varied and ever-changing as the natural world, Gaëtan Trottier’s molded metal sculptures retain the qualities of their molten birth, like cooled fragments of lava remaining after an explosive eruption. Cast in bronze and burnished with a subtly aged patina, Trottier creates his freeform abstractions and figurative studies purely by instinct and intuition, with a spontaneous and gestural motion. Trottier draws his inspiration from the existentialism and liberation of the Refus global’s Automatists and the subconscious vision of the surrealist movement. His work could be described as 'action sculpture,' after the 'action painting' movement in New York which influenced his artistic development. The process of creation is vital to his works as he submits to the freedom of his method, allowing the form to develop impulsively, unencumbered by preconceived thought or ideas.

Born in Montreal, Quebec, Trottier developed his skills while studying sculpture in Florence and Pietra Santa, Italy. Trottier’s works have received extensive recognition and exposure throughout Paris and Montreal, where he is a featured artist of the Montreal Bronze Museum.
