A quiet, creative way for a child to pass his time is a colouring book and a box of crayons; in a waiting room, in the car, at school, or other places. It can be a sensible creative outlet and, for numerous parents, a much needed reprieve!

Colouring pages, simple black and white figures usually of cute cartoon characters, can be printed free from cyberspace, found in activity booklets in dollar stores, in family restaurants, or even sometimes supplied at public libraries.

It is quite common for colouring pages to depict vacation themes, pictures, and characters (such as Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny), as well as animals, scenes in nature, long retired cartoons, educational themes, storybook themes, and biblical images. Even simplistic objects can be changed over into colouring page format, like bells, flowers and historic places.

It is, of course, important not to forget to get something to color with. Markers, pencils, chalk, crayons, watercolor paints. There are colouring books made specially to be used with watercolours, that come with their own little palette and brush, and have thicker pages.

Free pages that can be printed out at home any time you like are of course best of all. There are so many varieties waiting that as long as they have their pages and something to color with a child will never get bored. For most children, there is no greater gift they can give to Mom or Dad than a picture they colored all by themselves. Inside or outside of the lines, any page colored with love and happiness is a masterpiece.
