When it comes to makeup, you're no novice.

It's part of your daily routine. Yet, you often find yourself wishing you could make it something more.

Somehow improve that routine slightly and make it a little less routine and more pleasurable experience. Does this sound like you?

You might not consider yourself a makeup pro, but you'd like to have something just beyond what you've got in your current makeup collection. Here are a few easy ways to improve your makeup collection.

First you'll need to find out what it is that you want. Are you looking just for an update of colors and style or have you mastered the drugstore fare and want to make your makeup collection a little more high end?

This could be as simple as adding just one new product, but you've got to know what you're looking for.

Take note of the products that catch your eye next time you're flipping through a beauty magazine. Write down the ones you're interested in and narrow that list to just one or two items you really want.

Next, get some help. Maybe you've got a friend whose makeup collection rivals a Hollywood makeup artist's. Start by asking her what kind of products she loves. You might find yourself with an inside edge on the products you listed or she might even suggest something different.

You can also seek out the advice of people you know who are involved in the beauty industry, such as your hairdresser or manicurist. Since these professionals are surrounded by information on beauty products all day long, their advice is often very sound.

Finally, don't be afraid to experiment. There's no substitute for getting your hands on a product and trying it out for yourself.

Visit a makeup store and take advantage of trying the free samples. While buying good makeup can get pricey, this gives you the chance to see what you like and don't like before you pull out your wallet.

Try walking away from the store for a few minutes with the product sample on. Look at it in a different type of lighting. This will give you a better informed opinion before you add it to your makeup collection.

If you're a fan of buying online, the online version of this is to seek out a retailer who offers a "try-before-you-buy" collection or sends free samples with every purchase!
