Filtration Fabrics are those materials with the help of those, filtration process is performed. On macro level it can be categorized in woven filtration fabric and non woven filtration fabric.

A-Non Woven Filtration Fabrics-
In separation practice a non woven filtration fabrics can be normally described as a random fibrous web. In this form of filtration media sedimentation is accomplished either by mechanically or chemically. Typically non woven fabric producers supply filtration fabric from the capacity of 1 to 500 micron. Below rating of 10 to 15 micron, the filtration fabric is effective to catch elements of finer micron ratings. The micron rating depends significantly on the test procedure by which the producer rates the media and whether the rating is liquid or air. Because ratings are may be wide from one maker to another. So user has to care when comparing filtration fabrics of one company to another. It might be of huge variations. So it important to ask the non woven maker for a copy of the test procedure to check rate. In addition to the micron pour rating there are a number of other considerations including dirt handling capacity, flow rates and differential pressure data.

Characteristics of Non woven Filtration Fabrics-

Non woven filtration fabrics are broadly regarded as sheet or web structures bonded together by sediment fiber or filaments (and by perforating films) mechanically, thermally or chemically. The features of non woven filtration fabrics are flat, porous sheets that are made directly from separate fibers or from molten plastic or plastic film. They are not made by weaving or knitting and they do not require converting the fibers to yarn.

The filtration fabrics of these variations are developed fabrics that may be of a limited life. They are single-used fabric or a very strong fabric. Non woven filtration fabrics present specific functions for instance absorbency, liquid repellency, resilience, stretch, softness, strength, flame retardancy, wash ability, cushioning, filtering, bacterial barrier and sterility. These qualities are often combined to create fabrics suited for different jobs, while achieving a good balance between product use-life and expense. They can mimic the appearance, texture and strength of a woven fabric and can be as bulky as the thickest padding’s. In combination with other raw materials they present a spectrum of items with diverse properties, and are used alone or as components of apparel, home furnishings, health care, engineering, industrial and consumer goods.

B- Woven Filtration Fabrics-
Woven typed Filtration Fabrics are consists of two sets of yarns.
One set of yarns runs as warp and another runs along the length of the fabric. The different set of yarns the weft is perpendicular to the warp. Woven fabrics are held together by weaving the warp and the fill yarns over and under each other.
The woven Filtration Fabrics are cloth formed by knitting. They stretch only in the bias route, unless the threads are elastic.

Characteristics of Woven Filtration Fabrics:-
Woven Fabrics do not stretch. It extends only diagonal sides. Woven Filtration fabrics are made of fibers which run right at ninety degree angles to each other. Knitted fabrics have coils of fiber that enables the fabric to stretch. The level of stretching and directions are variables. A knit may stretch out in one direction or it may stretch in both directions. This is an important aspect when choosing fabric for a specific usage.
