Fake Tan Rules To Obey

In the modern beauty world, there are few products that remain quite as popular as the magic in a bottle that is fake tan. Able to turn even the pastiest person into a bronzed demi God in no time, it is truly a wonder of modern make-up. As we all know, however, if you abuse fake tan there is nothing to stop you ending up looking like a cross between a tango advert and the latest range of leather purses. That is why we have come up with this list of rules to obey when you are looking to apply leather tan to yourself – follow them, or end up looking like Dale Winton!

Exfoliate. Have you ever painted a room in your house? Did you notice how when you applied the first coat, the colours underneath would show through more in areas that were rougher or greasier? Well, your skin works in the exact same way! When applying fake tan it is important to make sure that your skin is exfoliated in advance to ensure that it’s as smooth as possible, as this means that the tan itself will be just as smooth. If you don’t do this, then you run the risk of carrying that ‘first coat of paint’ look – not sexy in the slightest!

Take your time. If you were heading out on a hot date, would you rush your eye make up? No! You’d make damn sure that you took your time in order to accentuate those beautiful baby blues in the best way possible, and to avoid that circus clown look. Well, you should treat fake tan in the same way: do not slack, but certainly take the time to perform the process in the best way possible – this can be potentially up to an hour, but it’s well worth the investment and is far better than rushing and then later on realise that you forgot to tan the back of your left leg!

Do not wax afterwards. Do not get us wrong, we all know the value of high quality waxing in the beauty stakes, but it is important to time it right! It is important to do any waxing at least twenty four hours or so in advance of applying any tan (fortunately, you will likely know about any big days or nights in advance so you will be able to do so) as not only will waxing afterwards remove the tan you have applied, waxing can also lead to dark dots on the skin which can collect the tan in the follicles: needless to say ‘spotty’ is not top of the list when it comes to beach body requirements!

Work upwards. There is one word that is the true nightmare when it comes to fake tan, and that word is ‘smudging!’ in order to avoid this particular horror, begin your fake tan application by starting with your legs and then moving upwards, and tanning your arms last of all – also remember to take the tan into the hairline, otherwise you might end up looking like you have simply acquired a very large birthmark rather than a tan!
