The environmental laws in Idaho require the proper disposal of all waste from the salvaging of vehicles. Improper disposal of waste especially those containing chemicals could become harmful to both humans and the earth and so the laws are designed to protect us .The major components that are involved in the disposal of a vehicle are the fluids, the batteries and the tyres. Waste products may be liquid, gas or solids and are managed by environmental laws for a particular state.

The Environmental Laws for Oils or fluids
The most dangerous fluids are the antifreeze, the refrigerant and mercury. These are governed by the Idaho environmental laws. It is illegal to discharge these matters in the air or on the ground as these may contaminate septic tanks, dry wells and underground water mains. Mercury is extremely dangerous and could damage the nervous system. The law requires that the mercury switches found in the anti-lock braking system, the head lights and tail lights and other parts of a vehicle are removed prior to the disposal of vehicles. It is illegal to vent any refrigerant used in the air conditioning of the vehicle in the open air. The state regulations require that these be stored in containers.

The Environmental Laws for Batteries
Because batteries contain lead and sulphuric acid, they are considered as hazardous waste matter and their disposal is managed by the law. The batteries are to be stored properly to prevent the leaking of acid into the ground. If the acid leaks out, neutralize it with baking soda or lime. Coat the surface of the storage area with concrete or asphalt to prevent acid contaminated with lead affecting sewer systems, storm drains or septic tanks. Batteries should not be disposed in landfills or be incinerated.
The environmental Laws for Tires
The laws require that tires be stored indoors. This is to prevent the accumulation of water within the tires which could be a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other harmful parasites. It is advisable that the rims be left on. Tires should not be burnt, buried or be deposited to areas that are not permitted to accept them as garbage. They should be taken to approve facilities that have permits to use them for beneficial purposes.

Every one should follow the rules that govern the disposal of the waste products of vehicles. Ensure that your property does not contain waste that is endangering lives. Be prepared when an inspector visits your property.
