Enthusiastic Actress Saira Banu

With a career spread over around 2 decades, Saira Banu enthralled the film audience from the 1960s to 80s. She is daughter to Naseem Banu, popular film star in the 30s-40s period. Saira is well known for charming appearance and skillful acting in her films. She is a talented actress and delivers her roles with panache of her own. In her career, she performed in variety of films and appeared in varied roles.

Career in Movies

When she was 17 she debuted with the film Junglee (1961) alongside Shammy Kapoor and the film was famous for the title track Chahe Koi Mujhe Junglee Kahe. Some of the popular movies that she acted in, in the list of 40, are Deewana, Duniya, Gopi and Sagina. For her performance in Deewana, Shagird and Sagina, she became one of the nominees in best actress category in Filmfare awards. Even though a few of the films were commercial failures, her performance could make an influence on the public. She experimented with roles in order to prove her versatility. She selected different movies like Shagird, a comical film, Chaitali, a socially inclined one and Bairaag, a heart warming one. Well Known actor Dilip Kumar was her co-actor in many of the movies.


Evergreen Movies

Padosan (1968) starring Sunil Dutt, singer Kishore Kumar and Mehmood, was one of her remarkable movies. It is a light hearted comedy flick where the male lead tries to attract the girl he loves saying that he is a singer. The movie was a success at the box office and also has many popular songs in it. Mere Saamnewaali Khidki Mein, Ek Chatur Naar and Main Chali Main Chali are some of the popular songs in that movie.

Bluffmater, Aayi Milan Ki Bela, April Fool, Jhuk Gaya Aasman and Aman were another set of movies of Saira Banu. She was fortunate to work with many actors like Dharmendra, Joy Mukherji, Rajendra Kumar and Biswajeet. Audience loved the romantic couple of Saira Banu and Rajendra Kumar. Aayi Milan Ki Bela, starring both of them, was a huge commercial success. Aha Aye Milan Ki Bela Dekho, Tum Khamseen Ho, Tu Bura Maan Gaye, Mai Pyar Ka Diwana and O Sanam Tere Ho Gaye were some song tracks in the film.

Life of Saira, Outside Movies

When Saira Banu wedded Dilip Kumar in '76, she was only 22 and decided to stop acting afterwards. But afterwards she gave guest appearances in Dilip Kumar starrer Duniya and in Faisla too. She received Award for Lifetime Achievement at Pune in 2011, January.
