Avoid fried foods as much as possible as they are usually cooked in fat or fatty oils. There is always oil hidden in the food no matter how well you dry it on the outside.

Chocolate should not be included in your diet due to the large amount of sugar they contain.

Eat several small meals a day to rev up your metabolism. Not eating actually causes the body to store more food as fat to prevent starvation.

Keep to a vegetarian diet as much as you can. Make a non- vegetarian diet a week end event if you find it impossible to totally give up meat.

In order to start the day with more energy it is important to eat breakfast within 1 hour of waking up. It does not have to be a huge meal so do not wait until you are starving.

Eating too much sugar can sabotage your weight loss goals. Sugar contains lots of calories so avoid it as much as possible

Fresh vegetables are better than cooked or canned vegetables. When you cook them, you are in fact taking away nearly half the vitamins in them. And canned vegetables too are processed and are not nearly half as good as fresh vegetables.


Variety in what you eat is important so choose a variety of foods from each food group each day.

Eating 4-6 small meals a day will speed up your metabolism to help you burn more calories

Have a scheduled time to eat at the same time every day to avoid a loss of appetite or worse, eating more because you are famished.

Eat only when you are hungry. Some of us have the tendency to eat whenever we see food. Whenever you are offered something to eat do not decline it completely just eat less of it.

Avoid snacks or snack on vegetables, low sugar or low fat items in between meals.

Never eat more than 1 egg a day. Eggs are not such a bright idea. It would be best to reduce your intake of eggs to maybe three in a week. But for those of you die hard egg fans, you may have up to one egg a day but nothing more than that.

Drinks containing alcohol are not good for you due to the sugar content and the fact that they lower inhibitions and will power so you are in no position to watch your diet.


Choose white meat rather than red which includes fish and fowl, is better than red meat, which includes beef and pork for those trying to lose weight.

Avoid sugar sweetened drinks and foods as much as possible and if you must then repalce them with sugar substitutes as they still taste sweet but without the calories like sugar has.

Limit the amount of fat you get in your diet. The amount of calories from fat should be no more than 30% of the total calories you eat per day. Figure out the amount of calories from fat by multiplying the grams of fat on the label by 9.

Boil your vegetables instead of cooking them, or even better, eat them fresh. However if you do not like eating your vegetables as it is, try steaming them without adding anything at all. This is probably the healthiest way to eat cabbages, cauliflowers and a host of other vegetables.

Dry wine is better than sweet wine. Sweet wines naturally contain a lot of sugar. But on the other hand, in dry wines most of this sugar has been fermented away so from the weight point of view dry wines are better than sweet wines.

Chew your food at least 20 to 25 times in order to add more saliva to the food as the saliva is what helps digest the sugars.

Choose low fat substitutes or no fat substitutes. There are plenty of low fat or even no fat substitutes available in the market so why not choose wisely.

Use a non stick frying pan for your cooking so that you do not have to add oil. The golden rule is to try and avoid as much oil as possible and a non stick pan is the perfect solution to this problem.
