This festival of durga puja is celebrated on the victory of good over evil. The yearly visit of the goddess is thought to bring well-being and happiness to the people. The city of Kolkata almost never sleeps during these last five days. Irrespective of all caste, creed and religion, durga puja , giving a rise to a brotherly spirit.

We all know that durga puja in Bengal is a carnival, where people from all backgrounds, regardless of their religious beliefs, participate and enjoy with vigor and jubilant. The beat of dhaks, the clash of cymbals, the ringing of bells, dances before the image of Durga maa, incense wafting in the air are the integral part of durga puja.
Although, durga puja is celebrated in West Bengal, particularly in the city of Kolkata , yet, Bengali communities in other part of India celebrate durga puja as well , like in Varanasi, Kanpur, Patna, Allhabad, Delhi and Mumbai, where there are domiciled Bangalees living for years. Durga Puja held outside Bengal is celebrated with equal fervor and zeal. One may not come across the excessive extravanganza there , but the devotion and community feeling reigns high.

During the festive time of durga puja all the people across Delhi come together to celebrate the grand festival.There are many places in Delhi where durga puja is being celebrated. Chittranjan Park is known for its giant pandals and cultural functions. You will get laajawwab Delhi style food in restaurant and way side dhaba. People from across the city come to visit this pandals and worship goddess Durga. At Chhatarpur temple, the most famous durgapuja is celrbrated with tremendous zeal which attracts large number of crowds. It is also believed that tying a thread on tree will fulfill your entire wish. At the time of durga puja people chants slokas and mantras to offer their worship to the goddess Durga.
Durga puja is celebrated all the corners of Delhi and adjoining areas of NCR, Gurgoan, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad. People wait for durga puja to gorge a variety of traditional delicacies. Hop into pandals and receive the glance of the pujo sundaris of para pandals. It’s also the time to stretch adda sessions way beyond midnight and wake up late with the sounds of dhaak.

In Mumbai durgapuja is celebrated for 9 days and is called as “Navratri”. In Mumbai the Gujratis play the major role to celebrate durga puja. The whole Gujrati community comes together and play “Dandiya”, and traditional dance of Gujrat. Durga Puja in Mumbai is celebrated in high . Places like Somayia ground, Mahalaxmi temple etc are some of the places where Navratri is being celebrated. There is also Shivaji Park, Dadar, where the Bengali clubs hold the Durga celebration every year. Then there is Lokhnadwala Garden, Andheri, where lavish durga puja is being celebrated and Many bollywood celebraties also join the fest to make durga puja more colorful and precious.
Every year, our community comes together to celebrate durga puja. It is an occasion of spiritualism, celebration, dance, music, and all the things that make our culture unique. Here once again, the Amchi Mumbai and dariya dil dilliwaalein are eying forward to celebrate durgapuja 2010 to relive the magic of Bengali culture.
