Although usually people talk about the great benefits of renewable power sources, we should not overlook the fact that there are also downsides to some green technologies. There are, for instance, disadvantages of wind energy that you should be aware of before investing in a wind-powered system. On the average, wind energy can be transformed into electricity with the help of wind turbines. Wind power will be converted into electricity by the use of an electrical generator in the system.

The number of turbines is the main problem with a wind-powered system. The cost of the wind turbines is really high, and even if the electricity bill gets really low, it takes time to cover for the initial investment. The turbines are totally green, yet they can be very noisy, and thus they turn into a disturbing factor in inhabited areas. In some people's opinion this is the biggest of all disadvantages of wind energy. Wind speed and intensity lack constancy, which is another major downside. Wind power is more efficiently produced in coastal areas than in inland regions, and even better out at sea on floating platforms.

This variability reduces the reliability of wind as a major power source in urban areas for instance. It suffices to say that the most efficient wind farms are located in rather isolated areas, pretty far from the places where wind energy could be used efficiently. Even the distance becomes a problem because of the transfer of electricity by transmission lines.

Some critical voices even reproach the unsightliness of wind farms. Yet, such disadvantages of wind energy seem far-fetched if we consider the fact that renewable energy is worth the aesthetic sacrifice. Among other small inconvenience is that wind turbines could kill birds when spinning, but such occurrences have a low frequency rate. The available data is nevertheless inconclusive in this respect, although such incidents have been reported occasionally.

Among other disadvantages of wind energy, we could also mention the interference with the reception of the television signal. Complaints have been filed in this respect, but their number remains reduced. You can further clarify the exact nature of the TV or radio signal problem by asking a pro to check everything for you. A specialist is the person to go for answers to your questions!
