A graphic artist feels little faces watching her whenever she works at home. A big chunk of her time is used for creating print ads, handling form designs, and other stuff that seem lifeless. There are dogs and cats looking at her from outside.

Because of those faces, this 34 year old's world suddenly opened up to new career. As she was making her way to Texas to see her parents, she decided to paint the images of her animals on canvas. She bases the colors used in the portrait from the animal's personality, and not its actual color.

Her objective in making animal paintings is to capture their essence. It's essential that I understand the personality of the animal so I can recreate it on canvas. The first painting was that of a dog of mixed breed that she found with her husband on a camping trip. The dog never left them, and it was red.

Green was the color she decided to use for her dog who was always jealous. She's not alone in creating animal portraits with nonconventional colors. Inspired by his dog who had already passed away, a cajun artist painted a dog using the color blue.

It's hard not to not see the blue dog. People view these blue paintings as fanciful, but the artist views it as haunting. The paintings may look amusing, but there is actually a spiritual connotation to each one. The dog, looking at us, makes us aware of questions that we have asked ourselves for ages.

Her artwork has to be a reflection of the animal's spirit. She makes use of electrifying colors and unusual patterns. These animals had no one to take care of them before she adopted them as her own. The newest dog she adopted was one who wandered from house to house.

She promoted her pet portraits by going to local veterinarian offices and leaving fliers there. In addition to photos of the animal, she also requests that clients describe the animal to her. When she understands the animal, only then does she pick the colors to use. The owner said the portraits offer his customers something more than a typical portrait or photograph.

Someone had used bright yellow for her portrait to capture the energy that flows within her. According to the owner of an art gallery in Memphis, when a person recognizes the subject in a portrait, they would be drawn to it. Looking at a portrait and appreciating it are two different things.
