Cream depilatories are easily obtainable at the local pharmacy or supermarket. They are cheap and anyone can use them in the privacy of their own home for maximum convenience. However, there are some precautions you need to keep in mind. This article first looks what cream depilatories are exactly. Then we'll explore where they can be used, how they should be used, and finally a few cautions.

So to our first point . . . .

What Are Cream Depilatories?

A depilatory cream contains strong chemicals which dissolve the hair just below the skin's surface. One main ingredient in many depilatories is calcium thioglycolate which breaks down the keratin so the dissolving hair can be wiped off.

Where Can Cream Depilatories Be Used?

As the preparation contains strong chemicals it is unwise to use them on facial areas. There are some depilatory creams specially designed for sensitive and facial areas but be aware they may cause skin irritation.

Generally this method of hair removal is good for arms and legs!

How Are They Used?

It is best to try a test patch first to make sure you do not get a skin irritation. Then apply the cream liberally. Don't rub it in, just allow it to do it's work on the hair and pay particular attention to the timing. The instructions should say how long to leave the cream on. This perhaps is the most important tip for using depilatories - to repeat, make sure you don't go over the recommended time!

Precautions

Cream depilatories are not for everyone. Yes, they can clear unwanted hair quickly over large areas such as the legs and arms. However, if an individual has coarse hair they may find the depilatory doesn't work quite as well.

Also some find the smell objectionable and they can be a little messy to clear up.

Some recommend not using depilatories more than once or twice a month as it can take off layers of skin. Also it is a good practice to stay out of the sun for a while after using them.

So to round up . . .

If you want to get a general idea of how these products work for people a good idea is to visit amazon's web site and just type in the names of some brands such as Veet, or Nair. There you will find customer reviews from the bad to the good.

With a product such as this, it is unlikely you will find a large number of overwhelmingly good reviews as everyone is different and the product will work differently on each person. So mixed results are to be expected.

There probably is no better way to find out if this hair removal method is good for you than by trying it yourself on an area of skin not so visible. As cream depilatories are quite inexpensive there is not much to lose!
