There is not a lot of things that are more devastating to a future mother than learning she is infertile due to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). However, you can get pregnant even if you have PCOS. One of the first things you must do is realize you are not alone. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) state that one in ten women of childbearing age have PCOS. The feeling of isolation can be crippling but to realize that there are many women out there
struggling and coping with the same thing you are can provide hope and when you want to get pregnant, hope may be the only thing you really need.

As mentioned, about one in ten women are afflicted with PCOS and many of these women do get pregnant despite having it. They didn't get any cures for PCOS because there are no true cures. PCOS can be managed however and when you are able to manage it, you can be able to get pregnant. So the next question is, "How can you manage PCOS?"

Many researchers and doctors suggest a healthy lifestyle is a great way to manage the negative effects of PCOS. PCOS makes your body's hormone levels imbalanced so a healthy diet, regular exercise, and quitting smoking (if you are a smoker) and contribute to getting your menstrual cycle back to normal. In fact, studies have shown that women who lose even ten pounds can get their hormone levels back to normal which can lead to regular cycles.

These lifestyle changes are all things you will want to do anyway, especially the smoking part, so it is better to make those changes now. Besides, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain from doing so. Also, you may want to think of your pregnancy lasting more than nine months as a result of these changes that you should make. Even though you may not be pregnant, the healthy lifestyle habits you will want to develop will take time to show the results. So if you think of your pregnancy lasting, for example, twelve months, you can begin to put yourself into the right frame of mind and be able to handle the seemingly drastic changes you will experience.

There is no shame in wanting a baby even if you are having a little trouble getting pregnant. You may have to adjust your lifestyle a bit sooner than the typical nine-month time frame we all think about when conceiving. Arm yourself with as much information about PCOS and how you can get pregnant and how other women have done so and you will be on your way to becoming a mother yourself. Hopefully, this has given you some comfort and encouragement.

Getting pregnant is possible and many women have successfully brought a baby into this world. Keep an open mind and keep yourself as healthy as possible.
