Comprehensive slider phone technology included within the Sony Ericsson Aino

The Sony Ericsson Aino is a relatively new addition to the Sony range. Released in October 2009 this phone provides a plethora of functionality which includes a high resolution camera as well as fast internet access coupled with a large touch screen. The Sony Ericsson Aino measures 104 mm x 50 mm wide and is 15 mm thick. It is a slider phone that weighs 134 g in weight and comes in either obsidian black or luminous white. It offers photocall capability, which is where an image can be tagged to a specific phone number which is then displayed upon a call from the relevant number. In addition it has an internal memory of 55 MB, however many packages include an 8 GB card which can be utilised within the integrated microSD card slot. For further expansion of the memory up to 32 GB the aforementioned card slot can also be utilised.


The display screen within this handset is a TFT capacitive touch screen which is 3 inches in size. Its ability to display 16 million colours at a pixel screen size of 240 x 432 is one of its most endearing features. An accelerometer sensor is also provided which automatically rotates images dependent upon the aspect of the image and the orientation of the screen. The phone comes with limited touch screen functionality as well as a central navigation key for accessing functionality.



One of the key elements of this handset is the 8.1 megapixel camera which operates at 3264 x 2440 pixels and includes a wide variety of picture taking aids. These include auto focus, touch focus, face detection and video stabiliser. In addition an LED flash is also included as well as geo-tagging capabilities. The camera also doubles up as a video recording device and will record video at VGA quality and at 30 frames per seconds. The software provided with this handset also includes a picture editor which enables editing of imagery whilst on the move.


The phone contains a multitude of connectivity options these include blue tooth and USB as well as HSDPA and Wi Fi connections for internet access at speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps. In addition GPRS and EDGE are included and are both class 10. Satellite navigation is provided by the GPS feature which includes A-GPS support and Wayfinder navigator software.


The Sony Aino also comes with an MP3/MP4 player, YouTube and Facebook applications, organiser and voice memo facilities as well as Google maps. One of its more curious benefits is its ability to act as a remote for the PlayStation 3. This handset provides a veritable feast of technology and has become a popular unit due to its emphatic feature rich capabilities as well as its endearing looks.
