If you are in the market to purchase a photo editing software program you certainly can't find anything better than Adobe's digital editing software products. However, Adobe is the leader in this market and your choices may be a bit confusing so I would like to help you figure out which program is right for you: if you are new to editing your photos using your computer I recommend you go with Adobe Elements 8; however, if you have been editing digital photos for a while then you may wan to look at the tools available in Adobe Photoshop.

As with most software manufacturers Adobe regularly comes out with new "versions" of their programs, oftentimes including security updates and new tools. Deciding which version is right for you might have you stumped however you may be surprised that there are not a lot of major changes between the various versions; if deciding to purchase Elements you can be assured that any version will meet your needs however if you are looking at Photoshop I recommend you purchase the latest CS4 version, so to be assured of having access to all the new tools available.

Adobe's latest version of Photoshop is CS4 and it contains a huge variety of tools that can easily allow you to produce some unbelievable results with your photos. A heads up, Photoshop is not an inexpensive program and costs a good bit more than Adobe Elements 8 so if the price tag is too heavy for your wallet I recommend you look at Photoshop Elements version 8 which should still meet most of your needs. Photoshop CS4 updates include support for 64-bit processing as well as updated tools and an improved user-interface.

If you decide on Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 you will be faced with two main tools, both of which are found in Photoshop CS4.

The Organizer is the first major tool which allows you to not only view thumbnails of your images but to also perform basic editing tasks. The second tool is the Editor where you not only have access to your photos but also provides a variety of wizards which will walk you through doing basic photo edits. Included is a Quick Fixes tool which will figure out the best way to fix problems in your photo including any lighting, color, or sharpness issue.

When using Adobe Elements 8 I tend to stick with the Organizer since I have easy access to tools such as Auto Color and Auto Contrast. There is even an Auto Smart Tool which takes any poor quality image and transforms it automatically into a professional quality photo.
