It isn’t unusual nowadays for the stars to end up in the celebrity gossip pages having overshared a little too much online – and this is something that is becoming even more frequent thanks to the Twitter micro-blogging site Twitter.

One of the latest people to fall foul of the social networking phenomenon is actor, presenter and comedian Russell Brand. The controversial fop has already carved out something of a bad boy image for himself, but it seems he may have gone a little too far having posted a picture of his glamorous pop star girlfriend looking less than a million dollars as she woke up next to him.

Singer Katy Perry can be seen staring back at Brand without an ounce of make up on her face – something the general public very rarely gets to see thanks to her usually polished and well maintained bubble gum pop persona. The couple recently tied the knot, but it seems unlikely the wife will be too thrilled with the image, which was taken down very quickly by Russell – but not before it had already spread across the internet like wild fire. Previously, Perry has been quoted as saying of her other half: “He's brilliant. Every day he amazes me. He makes me laugh like no one else. We are each other's perfect match.” However, it seems unlikely this will have amused her too much.

Of course, other stars fell afoul of dodgy Twitter pictures in 2010, including reality TV star, model and serial celebrity news topic Kim Kardashian. The it girl posted an image of herself in a black figure hugging outfit holding a cat aloft by the scruff of the neck. Unfortunately, people were not amused by the way in which the animal was being paraded around and made their feelings very clear – accusing her of being cruel and exploiting the kitty.

But not all celebrity Twitter fails involve inappropriate images, in fact, many stars have come undone by getting a little too upset in less than 140 text characters, including actor and comedian Alan Davies. The QI panel member set the social networking site alight this year when attempting to “stick up for” his friend and show host Stephen Fry – himself a very prolific and much loved user of the site. When one of Fry’s followers said that despite his admiration and adoration of the star, he felt that ultimately his tweets were “a bit… boring.” The celeb quickly and sarcastically responded and was soon joined by Davies, who later began angrily tweeting at anyone commenting on the matter, branding them all “morons”.
