Camera 500D - Actually a Very Good Camera

I have the Camera 500D for a week now and had ample opportunity to test them. The reference was to me now my already 4 years old EOS 350D available.

Haptics:
I must say that the Camera 500D compared to the 350D much better holding in his hand. The fact that a portion of the handle and the thumb supporting surface is made of synthetic leather, it is very comfortable to hold.

Since such a large screen takes its place, but had to give way, of course, the buttons and now I think are too cumbersome to achieve. Pressing e.g. Menu and Disp., It is easily obscured the screen or smudge it. In addition, the ISO button is now behind the wheel and too complicated to achieve. The various pressure points of the buttons are very well made.

In addition, turning of the zoom lens (EF-S 18-55mm) a bit too strict to require the unfortunate positioning of the switch AF / MF and IS that one looks at the lens in order to not confuse the two.

Image quality:
Well, I have both cameras directly compared with the same parameters and the same lens and must say that I could detect no major differences. Sure, the images of the Camera 500D bigger, but Quality is my 350D it's equal.

However, I must say that the camera has some very major weaknesses parameters:

- I place the image parameters in a very sharp, so the image quality suffers noticeably lower. I Do not do this, the photos are quite blurry.

- From ISO 800, the images rushing markedly. Especially the new ISO 3200 setting is too difficult to use. So strong, even in bright rooms rushing dark spots of the image that ISO 3200 is not used to actually.

- I also think that the Camera 500D produces in the fully automatic and the default settings, lifeless images. The pictures are not really sharp and somewhat colorless. Adjust parameter is announced.

Auto Focus:
As already known, the camera has a 9-point autofocus. This has been improved and works really quite fast and accurate.

Display:
The big screen is a real highlight and it looks very high quality. In fact, he shows the pictures in a fantastic quality. Because of its size, we also see the pictures very well and the eventual failure as well.

Live View:
Since this function in the 350D, I still have, I can only judge what I see here. This feature looks great on screen but is only for the most interesting, was solved as the problem of autofocus. There are now three ways to set the autofocus.

In two of the three species, the image is in focus, while it can be seen on the screen. As a result, the autofocus does not always work properly and often very, very slowly. The third possibility is the so-called Quick Mode. For this purpose, the mirror is flipped up again and there is no picture to see more on the screen. During these two seconds, the camera is now sharp. I must say that this function works very well and it is also relatively fast.

However, it can be annoying if you use Live View and you have to expose every few seconds to focus the image.

Of course you can also make the image sharp on the focusing ring manually.

Video:
Most hope I have put into the video function. With this camera, there are three different video sizes:
-640 * 480 pixels at 30 frames per second
-1280 * 800 pixels at 30 frames per second
-1920 * 1080 pixels at 20 frames per second (in fact, is the video 1920 * 1088 size)
Is certainly interesting to know that one minute movie in HD requires, so in 1920 * 1080 about 300 MB. If they have a 16GB SD card, then they create 50 minutes film.

For the video function should not necessarily a high-speed SD card to buy, because not enough normal writing speeds. They use a normal map, so there is every few seconds, picture noise.

Before the recording of the white balance and picture style may be changed. ISO sensitivity can not be changed. During recording, the settings can not be changed and the so-called quick mode of Live View is also disabled.

In addition, the camera will stop automatically after 29:59 minutes in length.

The picture quality is not my opinion, satisfactory. I would have expected much more. The pictures are a bit noisy and fuzzy and inaccurate records.

All in all, I'm not really satisfied with the camera. From the video function I had expected much more and was very disappointed. Since the camera does not justify the purchase price of 900 €, I will send them back again and buy for the money in my 350 is a fine lens.
