Released in November, 2009 the Blackberry Bold 9700 offers classic Blackberry styling and a wide array of features. The Bold 9700 measures 109x60x14mm and weighs in at 122g. A reasonably chunky phone, users are left with no doubts about the handsets build quality.

The 2.44" TFT screen is capable of displaying up to 65,000 colours at 480x360 pixels ensuring a bright and vibrant display. A full QWERTY keyboard and a touch sensitive optical track pad allow users to navigate and input text with ease and style.

Ringing styles include vibration and ringing with the capability to utilize mp3 files as ringtones. A speakerphone is built into the device allowing hands free communication. A 3.5mm audio jack provides the ability to use hands free kits, as well as listening to music via a compatible pair of headphones.

The Bold 9700 is provided with 256MB of internal storage and 256MB of RAM. A microSD slot can be found on the handset with 2GB included. However this can be increased up to 16GB allowing plenty of storage of media files, call records and files.


A range of web connectivity is included with the phone. Connection to 3G networks is via HSDPA at speed of up to 3.6Mbps. WiFi connectivity is included, meaning users can take advantage of hotspots located around the country. EDGE and GPRS are also included both at Class 10. This allows access to networks in areas with little or no 3G coverage. Bluetooth v2.1 is installed as standard, so users can transfer files and data with other Bluetooth compatible devices.

The Bold 9700 offers a functional camera boasting 3.15MP which operates at a pixel resolution of 2048x1536 pixels. The camera had auto focus and an LED flash, and also features image stabilisation. It can also record video making the phone a great choice for the entertainment minded.

The media player on the handset caters for mp3, WMA and AAC+ music formats. Video files which are compatible are WMV, XviD, 3gp and DivX. Music and video files can be easily transferred via the integrated microUSB (v2.0) port. This feature also means users can take further advantage of the included document editor which is compatible with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files. An organiser is included along with a voice memo recorder and voice dial which saves time browsing and searching contacts.


As expected from a Blackberry, the Bold 9700 ticks all the boxes when it comes to functionality. The classic Blackberry styling is sure to appeal to existing fans and introduce new users to the Blackberry experience.
