Big Job on Our Hands

Recently, VOA news reported that Norman Borlaug passed away at his home in Texas , at his age of 95. As an outstanding agricultural scientist, he once was conferred the Noble Peace Prize in the 1970s. This was a tribute paid to his contribution to the war of fighting against world famine and hunger crisis in the developing countries, mostly in Africa.
The starvation disaster nowadays attracted the concern of more and more people and charity society. They organized kinds of activities to accumulate money to promote the living conditions of the citizens in poverty-stricken areas. They even let the propaganda tools such as, stamps, silicone wristbands in large circulation to meet this end.
"In comparison with the work of Norman Borlaug, our effort is none too enough". One of the members from these charities told us. Norman Borlaug himself is a legend to many world people, for even several months before his passing away; he still worked on agricultural projects in some academic and scientific organization and institutes.
To memorize this great hero in human history, many charities issued some peculiar products, such as colored pamphlets and full color rubber bracelets to be souvenirs for those who make their donations to the starving people.
In spite of these praises from most of the sides in the world, Norman Borlaug's work has also been under severe criticism from those who attach great importance to environmental protection. The environmentalists also make rubber wristbands with the words such as "LOVE OUR HOME", "PROTECTION TODAY, OR EXTINCTION TOMMOROW" to raise people's awareness of environmental protection while cultivating more farmlands or increasing the yields of land by reforming the lands with fertilizers.
It goes without saying that every sword has two blades. Now the biggest problem is to feed the newly born people each year, which according to Norman Borlaug, "the number can reach as many as 84 million every year".
This is virtually a big job on our hands.
