Becoming An Eco Friendly Same Day Courier

Any successful businessperson will wax lyrical about the success that great PR can lead to. In the modern day, one of the main ways to do this is to try and increase how environmentally friendly both you and your company are and how much you take into account the importance of being ‘green’. Fortunately, there are various ways that you can do this when you’re a self employed courier, and we here at CRV Courier Guide are happy to help:

Make sure your journey’s planned in advance. Using Sat-nav is considered fairly standard amongst modern couriers; it is fairly common for devices such as this to actually send drivers the slightly longer way. Instead, use a map and plan the shortest routes yourself. Not only will this save fuel (very ‘green’) it’ll also mean that you won’t end up in a lot of trouble should your sat-nav breaks down half way through the journey!

Use your gears more and lower your speed. Sticking to the speed limit will mean you use far, far less fuel that you would otherwise – if even you do think it’s boring! Using the highest gear possible without labouring the engine will have a similar effect. These techniques may take a bit of time to get used to, but it’s worth it.

Turn off the unnecessary things. If you need to pop into a lay by for ten minutes to make a phone call, check a map or even to have a powernap, then turn your engine off! An idle engine will spit out 80% more pollution than an engine that’s turned completely off, leaving you with not only a much bigger cumulative fuel bill, but also with a ‘green’ reputation that has been greatly besmirched!

Lose the weight. Stop looking so angry, we’re not talking about you! One of the biggest ways that you can end up using excessive amounts of fuel is to overload your vehicle. Granted, as a self employed courier, you can’t control exactly how much cargo you’ll be carrying (you’ll likely end up with not a lot of customers if you try and do so!), but we’re sure that you’re probably already driving around with a bunch of gear that you really don’t need. The usual suspects include roof racks, unnecessary tools and a wide variety of other bric-o-brac that dates back ten years or so. Ditch it all, and be green!
