We love to find a good bargain. We love it even more when we can find a great deal and help the environment in the process.

We recently ran across a device that was new and did just that. They are called by a couple different names Smart Power Strip or Intelligent Surge Protector.

Here's how they work. There are many devices in your home that don't need to be on standby mode, draining power whether or not you're at home. For example, when you turn off your TV, why do you need your satellite/cable box, Blu-Ray player, home theater system or gaming console to remain on? All of these can use significant energy, harming the environment and your checking account.

The same is true for your desktop computer. When you turn that off, why do you need your monitor or printer to be on?

So how much do these products cost? The answer is always, "it depends." We had our team of Bargainmeisters cull the Internet and the best price we found was slightly under $30 at several online stores. For that price, if you use these devices properly, you should recoup your investment within one or two years, plus you get the satisfaction of doing your part to help out the Earth - and that's priceless.
