As the tons of plastics the world has produced over the years continue to congest the veins of our dear Mother Nature, bioplastic serves as a glimmer of hope that one day, our landfills would be lessened, our oceans crystal clear once again and our atmosphere would be more vibrant than before. Because of this, bioplastics and the industries behind this eco-friendly material have been honored for its innovation and vast contributions to our world.

Just recently, two researchers from Germany were awarded first place in the SME Research category of the 2010 European Inventor Award held in Madrid, Spain. Their creation was called the Arbofom "liquid wood," a unique bioplastic that can be a great alternative for wood. The material is made from pulp, wood and fibers and can biodegrade over time. In an article posted in www.prw.com, the judges described this new material as "a breakthrough in the sustainable use of renewable resources."

In 2007, bioplastic company Cereplast Inc. won the first ever Autoplast Speicon award from the Society of Plastic Engineers. The company was awarded at the Autoplast conference in Mumbai India for its creation BiopropyleneTM, the first polypropylene in the world that is made from eco-friendly materials like starches and tapioca. Cereplast is one of the most reliable bioplastic companies in the world.

Likewise, the Bioplastic Awards is held every year "to recognize the innovations, successes and achievements of companies and individuals involved in the bioplastics market." This event is organized by the European Plastics News, the leading European plastics magazine. Bioplastic companies from various countries like Brazil, Italy and the US are awarded every year by this prestigious body.

The bioplastic industry deserves not only the recognition and honor for its contributions to both the development and preservation of our world, but also the support of companies and individuals who want to leave a habitable environment for our children's children. Support the campaign for bioplastics production and the usage of biodegradable materials. The world needs it more than anything now.
