Before photography was invented, folk would hire professional artists and painter to make portraits.

Fashion Photography & Tame Glamour Photography

Fashion Runway


These are photos that try to tell a tale. This style of photography developed though reports photographers. In this style of photography the photographer is looking for to capture an event, action or something that's happening. Vis modeling, if you were shooting something editorial style, the model would be doing something. Think Norman Rockwell.

Beauty Photography


These are pictures of an individual in historic costumes. Examples would be renaissance robes, vintage clothing, 1920s flapper dresses, 1950s dresses or lingerie, for example.

Fitness Modeling
This would include sports wear, exercise outfits, tight shorts, sports bras, dance wear, leotards, tights, for example. Fitness modeling put a massive accent on showing off the body. Particularly re muscle tone, fitness for example. The poses are not sexually suggestive.
Performing Arts/ Sports stills
Examples would be ballet photos, pictures of yoga poses, belly dancing, pony trekking, self-defense skills, for example.
This is not the same as fitness modeling because the person is essentially performing the art or sport, not just posing for the picture.
swimming suit & Bikini Modeling
This naturally includes bikinis. I'm giant fan of one piece swimming suits by the way and no one ever appears to have them anymore.

These are models is attractive costumes or swim-suits used to draw in attention for precise services.

Based off the 1950s pin up models, this is style of photography all in its own. Pin up shoots are typically themed, cute, naively trusting with a tiny hint of sexual recommendation. Most pin up lingerie shoots are less revealing than a standard bikini shoots.

Costume Play or Cosplay is composed of photographs of folk wearing assorted costumes.

Boudoir, Intimates or Art undies
Think Victory strategies here. This level is top quality glamour undies photos. Poses in this style emphasise beauty and are usually not sexually unambiguous.
Art Implied Nudes
Think a Caress soap commercial, lotion commercial or body wash commercial on telly. Often these snaps are done in black white and a massive stress is placed on lighting strategies.

Modern Pin Up
Think maxim mag here. The point is to make the model look hot and horny.

Modern Pin Up would the sexy posters of girls that college boys put up in their dorm rooms.

Art Nudes
top quality photographs of human body with emphasis on beauty. This is in the tradition of famous painters and sculptures such as Michelangelo, Botticelli, and Leonardo DaVinci.

This is the lothario mag level ; R rated nudity. The photos aren't sexual explicit but are sexually suggestive.
