To begin with, under $100? Yes, I discovered greater than a couple of vendor stores selling these to (both straight and coiled cord) on eBay for less than $100. They are permanent stores with fixed prices, not auctions, so hopefully you could discover them for the same cost. But anyways...

I spent almost per month searching for the "right" set of headphones in my home mixing. Per month is most likely a very long time to invest whenever you aren't thinking about investing a lot more than $100 anyways, maybe $150 tops, however it provides me with a hot fuzzy feeling inside to understand that my money continues to be wisely spent. Also it certainly continues to be!

I have to read a 1000 reading user reviews of various headphones, and individuals from audio sites like Headroom, [...] and professional-oriented sites like MusiciansFriend. I used the majority of the more well-known headphones within this range, including The new sony MDR-V6 and MDR-7506, V700DJ, Sennheiser HD280, HD485, HD515, HD595, Bose Quietcomfort 3, "over-ear" headphones, AKG K240, Grado SR80i and SR125, along with the Audio-Technica AD700, A700 and m40fs. It required quite a damn very long time.

Okay, I'll voluntarily state that between a wide variety of headphones it's difficult to state what "best" really means. Some headphones certainly possess a "flavor" that individuals prefer but which can be annoying or annoying to other people. Since I Have was searching for monitor headphones, I needed a really flat response and that i personally should you prefer a little passive isolation (i.e. closed-back phones). Also, my mind is sort of bigger than average, and also the Sennheisers and Grados were irritatingly tight. The M50s were snug in the beginning, but from the ones I examined they've among the best, sturdiest-searching bands and so i wasn't afraid to stretch it over my computer situation overnight. I'd heard the Audiophile phones from the AT line (the AD700s and A700s) were just a little large, and in keeping with that statement they can fit superbly and also the "wings" sailed nearly weightlessly on my small mind. However, these were a bit more "flavored" than the usual truly flat response (they're, in the end, promoted as audiophile headphones, not monitor) and that i could not locate them for less than $100 to ensure that ruled them out. Ironically, during the time of this writing headphonereviewsbuy.com apparently has them on purchase for $87 with free delivery. Huh.

To state a couple of brief reasons for another pairs I attempted, the Sony's and also the AKG's were disappointing thinking about all of the good stuff I'd learned about them - it leads me to suspect that a few of their acclaim is because of the respected status of the "classic" forerunners, instead of wholly in line with the product itself. That's just my impression. The m40fs was excellent, the Audio-Technica ATH-M50 were just slightly better as well as in my budget. The Sennheiser 485's were honestly terrific, these were the only real Sennheisers that did not hurt my mind plus they were built with a spectacular seem, that we somewhat chosen over the venerable HD280s. Still, these were open-backed but still just less than as great because the M50s. Bose comfort was great but after hearing the suggestions above their seem quality would be a joke. On the other hand they are not quite promoted towards the professional audio crowd, that I have seen.

Either in situation, I had been VERY impressed using the seem excellence of the Audio-Technica ATH-M50, particularly the bass. As other testers have stated, the bass is extremely obvious and "punchy", present without having to be overemphasized. This really is very well suited for monitoring, No other headphones I took in to were as faithful. The ranges maybe ~2 octaves above middle C and greater (I am a pianist so that is what I believe when it comes to) are only a very tiny touch vibrant, however again I have only ~5 hrs of burn-in by this writing and I have heard that changes.

You will find a few significant variations between closed and open-back headphones, and that's why I known as this review "best closed-back headphones under $100". But that is exactly what they're. Seem clearness and separation, stage and retrieval are *a minimum of- comparable to headphones 2 or 3 occasions this cost. A friend who runs seem tech and is the owner of a set of A900s visited me yesterday and am astounded by the standard of those phones versus. the cost he went to purchase some themself. I'd suggest that anybody searching for an excellent set of phones go and perform the same!
