Drinking alkaline ionized water is a terrific way to hydrate. And, when you own a water ionizer you can adjust the pH level of the water so that it fits your specific needs. The most commonly recommended pH level for drinking water is between 9.0 and 9.5.

At this level alkaline ionized water is suited for drinking through the day and the night. It's great for making nutritional shakes. And although you should drink it when you take most supplements, you should avoid taking Niacin with alkaline ionized water. That's because if you take Niacin with any level of alkaline ionized water you will probably experience an unpleasant "flush".

If you increase the level to 10.0 or higher you'll find that alkaline ionized water is a great base for making tea, coffee, and soup. And you should use it at this level to soak all of your fruits and vegetables.

If you like strawberries you'll probably find that after soaking them in ionized water they will taste sweeter and that it will have removed a lot of their tartness. Ionized water at pH 10.0 or higher will also reduce celery's bitter taste.

When it comes to purchasing a water ionizer you can either get a faucet-style ionizer or one that goes under your sink.

If you are like most people and have too many appliances taking up space on your countertop then you will appreciate the convenience of having a faucet style water ionizer. However, if you're thinking of buying either a simple ionized water faucet or an under the counter unit then there are a number of things that you should consider before you make your decision.

The first thing you're going to have to consider is where you will get the electricity if you use an under the counter water ionizer. You may think that you'll be able to use the same electric outlet that you use to power your garbage disposal.

But guess what? You know that switch that turns the garbage disposal on and off? Well, the way it works is by shutting off the power that comes from the outlet. So, if you plan on using this outlet, you should also plan on using your ionizer only when you use your garbage disposal.

Alternatively you can have an electrician install another outlet. Figure that it will cost you in the neighborhood of $150.

As far as installation goes, most under the counter water ionizers come with a couple of hoses that you will have to connect. Although most folks can handle the installation by themselves in about half an hour, if you will have to call a plumber you will have to anticipate that cost as well.
