AIM (Free)

REVIEW - "Instant Message is a breeze with this fun, easy App"

When I first fired up this app, I was impressed with its quick startup and the fact that one can choose from three different instant messaging accounts, AIM, MobileMe or Mac. After logging in with my AIM account, I was asked if I wanted to share my location with friends. I thought that was a great extra for an instant messaging program because it allows you to be connected with others quickly, thus enhancing communication and making life a lot easier!

Once logged in, the interface of this app was simple and it was easy to organize your buddies into groups or favorites. At the bottom of the screen, you can view your contacts, favorites, update your information and manage you're current instant messages with a simple click.

While instant messaging my buddies, I noticed that this app had the same powerful features as AIM used on a personal computer. Messages were sent quickly and easily, although they could add the landscape texting feature on the free version, not just the paid version.

A feature I thought was interesting was being able to text your contacts in your phone for free with AIM. Users just select a mobile number and can start instant message conversations immediately, and best of all, for free. The graphics on this app are striking and are on par with those seen on a PC. The new push feature is a great addition to this app because it keeps you on top of all instant messages and increases the functionality of this app. I found out while using this app, I was logged out constantly. That was one of the only gripes I had while using this app.

Although this app is great for keeping in touch with buddies, it does have a bit of a lag when messaging your buddies. The advertisements aren't intrusive at all. A feature they could add in future versions would be image sharing between users as well as allowing voice conversations. All in all, this app is very useful to have in your iPhone arsenal because of its ability to communicate quickly with buddies, share your location with others, and the great push notifications.
