Dry skin can be troublesome. It can get itchy and give rise to that uncomfortable stretchy feeling, cause chapping and skin cracking. Dry skin can also make your face look pale and create white lines when you scratch on the skin. In addition to all this, dry skin is also prone to wrinkles and premature aging. Dry skin which is the direct result of low sebum production by the skin makes your skin sensitive and prone to the above problems because of its inability to retain moisture. So what's the solution?

The following tips will help you deal effectively with the dry skin syndrome without resorting to costly cosmetics:

1.) Avoid stuff that drain water content from your body: Cigarette smoking, drinking alcohol and caffeine. All these drain your body of fluids. These substances increase the toxicity level of your blood and then the body has the drain them out to return the blood toxicity levels to normal. This directly means that the body is going to need a lot of water to flush these substances down. Cutting down on these toxins can help your body retain more water which will be available to the skin cells.

2.) Drink Plenty of Water: You don't need to stuff yourself with excesses water but drink adequate quantities of it. The tip to remember is to drink small quantities of water a lot of times during the day rather than drinking a lot of water at one go. Too much water at one go is not going to help and the body will simply discard it. So avoid doing that. Drink when you are thirsty and drink small quantities at regular intervals throughout the day.

3.) Avoid Strong Soaps: It is always best to wash the face with water and not with strong soaps. Soaps drain your skin of oils which can make them dry and itchy. Do not use soap on your skin in the mornings. Instead use a mild soap at night as this is the time when the skin actually needs cleaning.

4.) Change Your Diet: Make a switch to healthy food products that have low salt content. Salt is also a toxin that can drain ample amounts of water from your body. So avoid foods that carry heavy salts. Eat plenty of fruits that are rich in water content like water melons. Water in fruits can easily be absorbed by the body.

5.) Exfoliate and Moisturize: Exfoliate your skin before you apply a moisturizer. A lot of sites selling beauty products stock a wide range of moisturizers but which one should you be using? Reports suggest that products containing mineral oils and petroleum products are not particularly good for dry skin. A better alternative would be to go for products containing natural hypoallergenic ingredients.

6.) Try Humidifies: Humidifies are appliances that help increase the moisture/humidity in the air. Place the humidifier in a room that you frequent the most like your bedroom. Exposure to humid air will immediately improve your skin condition. This is definitely a great option if you spend a lot of time in a single room. There are some risks to using humidifiers, so make sure you are aware of them and take proper measures to reduce these risks.

Dry skin can be a troublesome skin condition but it can be easily treated if you follow the above steps. In most cases if you are not suffering from extreme dry skin condition just increasing your fluid intake and changing your diet will make the difference.
