The idea that the world (or humanity’s existence) will end on the 21st of December 2012 is a prophesy we are all familiar with. The main source is it is the end of the Mayan Calander. This Long Count calendar has lasted for five thousand one hundred and twenty five years, and although the end of the calendar leads to many different interpretations, One interpretation is that the world will come to a quick end in 2012. We are currently living in batkun the last cycle. There is no clear indication of how the world will end but the most popular conclusion is that it will be by something from outer space, this is not definite but for some it comes from a basic understanding of Mayan culture and their unique understanding of astronomical phenomena and planetary alignments. There are other beliefs such as the world will end due to a force outside the galaxy or it will be through a problem with our own sun. Some believe it will come through a huge solar flare.

Religious people too are believing the world will end in 2012 based on the bible Armageddon predictions. The I Ching also known as the Chinese book of changes, says the same thing, as do various Hindu teachings.
