The Canon PowerShot S5 IS: Is Loaded With Canons Latest Technologies.

Canon PowerShot S5 IS Digital Camera has an ultra powerful 12x optical zoom this means you'll get the shot you want with no compromise, yet that's only the beginning of what makes this camera so good. This camera has many of Canon's latest advanced technologies including the DIGIC III Image processor so both still images and movies are rendered with fine detail and luminous clarity. Canon Powershot S5 IS is digital and one of the best, it blends with the best digital photography and quality movie shooting because of its 8 megapixel Poweshot Camera. It also has the features of an SLR.

Camera performance was very good. The PowerShot S5 starts up in an incredible 0.9 seconds twice as fast as its predecessor. Camera menus and settings are well laid out and user friendly to navigate. The camera is expected to be available for a manufacturer's recommended retail price of $399 US.

Flash intensity and other settings are easily accessed and controlled from the cameras LCD screen. Flash intensity and other settings are easily accessed and controlled from the Digital Cameras LCD screen. Flash pictures continued to be well exposed when face detection was used. Including dark backgrounds and brightly lit areas.

Digital Cameras make this especially easy because there are no film costs or delays. Digital noise was excessive and they felt that a camera of this caliber should have done better, particularly for a camera in this class. Digital Cameras are getting bigger and better everyday and a digital camera is usually judge by how many megapixels it offers. Canon is one of the reputed company in manufacturing cameras, digital cameras and other camera equipment like lens.

ISO 800 is usable in good light if you use noise reduction software, but you might as well forget about using ISO 1600. There seemed to be more purple fringing and corner blurriness than on the S3, which tells me that the S5's lens is really being pushed hard. ISO 400 is where the fun starts as noise is definitely noticeable on the mid tones as well as the low key areas. The edges of the squares are also starting to distort whilst ISO 800 simply amplifies the process even more.

Optical Image stabilization allows for sharp shots even when the lighting isn't perfect and overall the design of this camera is excellent. Unfortunately image quality at ISO 400 and up isn't up to snuff and it is a shame that such a well designed camera from a major player suffers where it matters most. Digital zooming is crummy because the picture gets grainy as you zoom. Optical Viewfinder is all but useless and cannot be used in sunlight. For many serious photographers an optical viewfinder is a must.
