Why are More Businesses Using Voip Services?

By: Jacqui Q | Posted: 25th March 2009

Voip or Voice Over Internet Protocol is a way of communicating using what is known as an internet protocol rather than opting for the traditional analog methods. Voip works by converting spoken audio signals (voices) into a digital signal which is then sent via the internet. If the person using Voip is calling a regular telephone the digital signal is usually converted back into analog at the other end so that the phone call can continue as normal. So why are so many businesses today choosing to use Voip services rather than their traditional telephone systems?
There are so many advantages to using Voip services which include:
• Cheaper costs for telephone calls - as Voip services use the internet to make and take calls much of the traditional equipment that is needed for analog calls is not needed. International long distance calls can be up to 90% cheaper when using Voip services and many of the Voip providers will even offer their customers an unlimited call plan where any number of calls an be made each and every month.
• Cheaper equipment - as the majority of the equipment that you need is an internet connection, a PC and a Voip telephone or a regular telephone with Voip adaptor there is little in the way of expense for many businesses as they will tend to already have PCs and internet connections in place already.
• Highly portable - due to the emergence of thousands of Wi Fi hot spots you can make and take Voip calls literally wherever you are (providing you are in a Wi Fi hot spot and have a compatible laptop with you). Anyone who is travelling on business can easily make business calls and calls back to the office thanks to their Voip services provider.
• More options - as Voip services have developed there are now multiple options that callers can utilise such as call waiting, 3 way calls, conference calls, caller ID, caller block and a lot more. Many of the Voip services available offer many of these features as standard but some of them require an additional fee, although this is normally minimal.
• Free PC to PC calls - this is one of the most popular features of Voip services as anyone who has the Voip software installed on their P and has a microphone can call PC to PC for as long as they like for free.
Due to their huge popularity Voip services show no sign of slowing down and there are always new developments in the pipeline. Any business that uses Voip services recognises that this way of making and taking phone calls (and video calls) is a sound way to keep business costs down whilst still providing an excellent service to their customers. Voip services offer the user so many choices and are so flexible that is quite believable that eventually everyone and not just businesses will be using Voip calling as a way of communicating in the not so distant future.
