Attending to stains immediately

A carpet is a nice addition to the décor of a home. It makes your house look cozier and fills up empty spaces well. The maintenance of carpets is also important. Keeping your carpets clean is important if you want them to last you a long while.
The most important step to carpet cleaning is to ensure that you prevent any mishaps. This will save you the trouble of having to invest in expensive carpet cleaning products as well. When you are cleaning your carpet, don’t rub a stain or spot vigorously. This will only result in the stain going in deeper. The fibers of the carpet will also be weakened with such mishandling.
When treating a stain remember that sometimes stains tend to reappear even when you have cleaned them the first time round. To prevent this from happening, once you have cleaned the stain, place a cloth above it and weigh it down. Leave it that way overnight. The cloth will absorb the remnants of the stain and it will not rise up again.
Though it is sometimes recommended, using a hair dryer or an iron on a carpet stain will in fact fix it in place. The best way to clean a carpet is to steam clean it. This of course will have to be done by an expert, or you will need to hire a specialist to do the job for you. Else you will need to invest in steam machine which is not really feasible unless you have several carpets that need the treatment.
For stubborn stains like those of mold and mildew its best to go in for natural cleaning agents like a lemon juice and salt solution. This works well for colored carpets. Another way is to brush the affected area with hydrogen peroxide solution (3:5). Keep an eye out for stains and try and attend to them immediately. This is the best way of getting the taken care before then cause real damage.
