One of the more popular ways of eating over the past few years is the raw food diet. This does not have to be a weight loss diet but more of an eating plan. There are many reasons that people choose to eat this way. First is to get quality organic foods into the body. Others have vegan reasons for doing so and do not use any animal products at all. Is this type of diet good for you?

If you compare the standard diet that most Americans eat, which is high in processed foods to a raw food diet, the raw diet is much healthier since it avoids large quantities of fat, sodium, cholesterol, sugars, and calories. Most people would end up having a healthier diet eating this way compared to the average dietary choices.

What does this diet consist of?

Raw food is considered to be food that is never cooked above 110 degrees. It is mostly made up of fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, nuts, and other natural foods. While this might sound rather limited, there are thousands of recipes that emulate many popular dishes that people are used to eating despite not having the ability to actually cook or warm up the food.

Are there any dangers to be concerned about this type of eating?

A person might miss out on a few nutrients or be deficient in some areas. Those who eat this type of food all the time typically get a blood test to monitor their levels. Things like iron and vitamin B12 are needed and many times this cannot be found in just natural foods.

One option is to start eating more raw foods during the day replacing processed foods. You do not have to eat all raw food to get their health benefits. Do not stop eating everything you are eating now and replace it with all raw food, as this will be too much of a change in diet for your body to properly adjust to.
