Sports news is very much popular all over the world. It is due to the young people taking immense interest in sports activities. People love to read news about all kinds of sports like football, cricket, tennis, boxing and athletic events.
Cricket is a highly popular sport in India. Indians follow all international cricket events religiously. It is also due to not-so-great performance of the country in other sports. Once upon a time hockey used to be India's most popular sport, helped by great performance of the country in the game. Then Indian hokey team used to win most of the tournaments. Several times it won Olympics gold medals for the country.
After the Indian cricket team won the world cup in 1983, young sports lovers in the country got attracted more to cricket. Soon, the game replaced hockey as the most popular sport of the country. The rest of sports were not in focus. However, in last 10 years, victories in other sports like tennis, chess, boxing etc have helped in promoting the games in the country.
Though cricket is the most popular sport in India, it is football which is the most popular sport in most of the countries of the world. In many countries it is followed like religion. In Latin America people are crazy for the game. Many players of football there have super star status and are treated like semi-gods. Pele, Maradona, Ronaldo, etc are football stars there. Pele is considered the greatest footballer ever.
Olympics Games is the biggest sporting event in the world. It has events of several games. People do religiously follow sports news during the entire period of the Olympics.
