Why the Padlocks on the Cabinets David?

We always knew that blended families could be a bit awkward, but not to the extent it is in this 2009 flick - The Stepfather.

Kids take a lot of time to get used to the new person in the family. But in the case of this thriller, the mother Susan and her children are quite easily lured by David, ‘the stepfather'. Only the eldest of her kids, her son named Michael, doubts his character.

Scenes worth doubting in The Stepfather Story:

• In spite of David blabbering so much about ‘family', he doesn't like anyone taking his picture with the family.
• David is even featured on America's Most Wanted. Mrs. Cutter from across the street mentions this. She also dies the next day. But that hardly convinces Michael's mother to realize he's a killer and that he's not looking for a happily married life with her, whatsoever.
• There are many other clues that could easily decipher the stepfather's true colours like the padlocks on the cabinets, him chocking one of the younger kids almost to death (for turning up the volume of the video game), etc. None of that's very convincing to anyone in the family except Michael.
