Budget phones are making a comeback, in a move to counter the expense of having the latest technology at your fingertips, Asus are offering the ASUS P320. This smart phone offers a wealth of functions but at a price that is more affordable than many on the market. The phone utilises the TI OMAP 850 200 MHz processor and Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional as its mainstay, both of which are reliable and responsive.

The camera provided by the ASUS P320 is 2 mega pixels, this is not the largest available but the budget price tag of the phone should be borne in mind when considering its features. The camera operates at a resolution of 1600 x 1200 and includes auto focus, which is always a useful feature to have within any camera. Video recording and playback are provided within the phone and is an alternative to static images taken by the camera. There are numerous occasions when a still image will not do the situation justice and as such the video element is handy.

The phones main element is of course, the 2.6 inch TFT resistive touch screen display which has a pixel size of 240 x 320. The screen offers excellent colour reproduction by virtue of being able to handle 65,000 colours and their variants to be displayed on the large screen. A central button is also provided for navigation around the features contained within the phone.

The phone offers multiple means of providing entertainment, which includes an MP3 and MP4 player. This enables the user to download music and video files to play on the screen. The phone also offers additional tools such as an organiser, World clock and pocket versions of the main MS office packages.

The phone comes with numerous connectivity options which include GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Blue tooth and USB. This plethora of connections affords the user the means to connect to multiple devices as well as performing numerous tasks whilst on the move. The added bonus of incorporating satellite navigation via its GPS functions is welcome.

The ASUS P320 is a small and compact unit which is well designed and responds well to being used. The handset is 99 mm by 55 mm wide and is 13 mm thick, it weighs 105 grams and is a simple and effective work tool and entertainment centre whilst out and about.
