Electricity load shedding in Pakistan

By: Tahir Jamil | Posted: 03rd August 2009

Electricity load shedding in Pakistan has increased manifold. No work is possible in such a crippling situation. No improvement has been made despite numerous assurances of government officials and the minister. Minister of water and power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf assured that electricity load shedding would be done according to time schedule. He assured that load shedding will finish by the end of this year. I heartedly pray that Raja Pervaiz Ashraf realize his claim. Minister of water and power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf might have taken steps in order to realize his claim. I wholeheartedly pray to God that he could be able accomplish his claims and objectives. However, looking at the present intensity, it does not looks that load shedding will finish ever.
Some people are using two or more lines in order to avoid load shedding. There is no benefit of load shedding in such circumstances.
One of horrible news is this that government is drastically increasing electricity tariffs due to the pressure of World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF). World Bank wants 31 percent increase in electricity tariffs while Pakistani government wants 17 percent increase in electricity tariffs. Considering price hike, inflation and poverty of general people I will suggest no increase in electricity tariffs. Government should not slaughter masses on the pressure of International Monetary Fund (IMF). Here I want to record that I am not against World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF). However, World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) should take into consideration the poverty of the people, price hike and inflation in the country.
