Family And Work-How To Balance The Two On A Busy Schedule

It's been nearly 4 outstanding months since my son was born. I remember the joy I felt the moment I first laid eyes on him. I remember his first smile, first laugh, and his first attempt to interact with me.
As much as I would love to do nothing but spend time with him, the real world does exist. Spending every last minute with him is simply not possible.
Do you ever feel the same way with your children? Do you have a busy schedule that demands time that you feel would be better spent with your family? Are you searching for a solution that will allow you to still spend a solid amount of quality family time while meeting your work requirements? How can you do this?
First things first, you need to decide that no matter what, you will make family time a priority. In other words, if going bankrupt is the only way you can spend time with your family, you should be prepared to do it. Don't worry; it's very rare that it would come to that. I'm simply trying to help you understand that you must be committed to this at all cost.
Next, sit down and plot out every last second of your day. What do you do? What do you not do? When are you spending time with your family now?
You must also note what is flexible and what is not. For example, are you on a fixed schedule at work or can you change your hours? Do you work overtime? Can those hours be changed or reduced if needed?
After you've done this, schedule your day down to the last minute. Of course, this schedule must include family time. Also, plan a time, once a week, to schedule the next week. Once you've done this, you are ready to look into other adjustments.
For most of us, work is the largest consumer of our time. If those hours can be reduced or made flexible, your family time can go up drastically.
If you own a business, you are probably in the best position to make rapid change in this area. Do you have an office? Can this office be moved to your home? Have you looked into this recently? I ask this question because technology has improved in recent years that would allow many people to run a business from home that used to require they keep an outside office.
If you have a job, changes may be a little harder. If you are unable to change your hours, consider starting a business part time from home. You will then have almost complete control over when you work that business. In time, you will be able to replace your job with the business you run from home. When that happens, you will never have schedule your family time around work. Instead, you can schedule work around family time.
